Ang II stimulates angiogenesis and increases microvessel density. In addition, the renin-angiotensin and nitric oxide-generating systems appear to interract in the regulation of cardiovascular function. Angiotensin (Ang) II is a peptide which plays an important role in the regulation of blood pressure and has strong vasoconstrictive effects. It also stimulates the release of aldosterone from the adrenal gland and inhibits adenylate cyclase activity. It also increases the entry of Ca2+ in heart muscle via voltage-sensitive channels and activates myosin light chain kinase (MYLK). It also elicits an increase in voltage-dependent delayed rectifier K+ current in neurons and activates JAK2 in smooth muscle cells.
