Minocycline impurity
Minocycline is an orally effective, blood-brain barrier-permeable semisynthetic tetracycline antibiotic. Minocycline is a hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF-1α) inhibitor. Minocycline has anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory and glutamate antagonist effects. Minocycline reduces glutamate neurotransmission, showing neuroprotective properties and antidepressant effects. Minocycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the bacterial ribosome 30S subunit, thereby producing an antibacterial (bacteriostatic) effect.
