Azidation, Diazo Transfer
Azidation and diazo transfer reagents introduce azide (R-N3) or diazo (R2C=N2) groups into organic molecules. Sulfonyl azides such as p-dodecylbenzenesulfonyl azide transfer a diazo group to active methylene compounds (Regitz diazo transfer) and are safer alternatives to tosyl azide; related reagents convert primary amines into azides.
