Idoses
Idoses are aldohexoses (C6H12O6); L-idose is the C-5 epimer of D-glucose, and its oxidized form, L-iduronic acid, is a key component of heparin and dermatan sulfate. This category also includes the corresponding sugar alcohol iditol, used as a standard and synthetic starting material in glycoscience.
